Stinkhorn!!

Stinkhorn in our yard

God is just so creative.   He knew I needed some distraction from my tears today.  More later- but our beloved Golden Retriever died this morning.

My hubby ask me to find a spot in the garden to plant a clematis we’d gotten as a gift after his Father’s funeral last week. While he was busy planting the clematis I decided to pull some weeds out of the garden.

Suddenly I jumped back. As I thought I’d seen a snake. Yet as I looked further I saw that these ugly/weird looking “things” were popped up all around the front of the house.  I grabbed him and said “You have to see this!”  ”What is it- a worm or a type of fungi?”  He assured me it was no snake or worm yet had no idea what it was.

So I got my camera and took this picture of just one of the many dozen of these things. Then posted a couple pics on facebook and ask if anyone might know what this was.  I also remembered a lady who I know from both facebook and twitter who has helped me by solving  garden mysteries in the past.  Initially Marsha told me this was going to be a challenge. Others commented “Gross” or “Weird”.

Yet right away Marsha came back posting “I’ve found it!”  ”It’s a STINKHORN. Mystery solved. When in doubt ask online.

PS I did NOT go back out to smell them and see how much they stunk!

Monday’s Illusion

Beauty any day of the week

Monday’s are an illusion. Some people feel overwhelmed regarding the full week of work ahead. Others look at Monday mornings

Beauty any day of the week

as a fresh start. Our thoughts about Monday’s are  just unique ways we consider ourselves amidst a particular named day of the week.

For our oldest son, every other Monday is the beginning of three days off work. For my recently deceased Father in Law last Monday was the  final eve of his life.  For myself, Monday’s are generally a sweet catch up day from a busy weekend and precious time alone, as my dear husband returns to another week of work.

Just remember that Monday’s are what you make them.

Consider that your thoughts about Mondays are easily re-directed. I’m reminded of a common quote from the artist Rob Ross who, when encouraging people to use their imaginations  so often said “It’s your world and you can make it any way you want it.”

So make your Monday mornings good ones. Remember that your outlook and attitude can make a huge difference on someone else’s.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.Psalm 118:24

When We Won Room2Bloom

In 2007 we won the Tri State Home Show contest Room 2 Bloom

So exciting how the internets rallied around us for votes. We had a very sad corner of our yard totally landscaped. So beautiful… and our kids got married in the yard a couple months later. I only wish the knockout rose bushes wouldn’t grow so quickly.. Anyway enjoy the video our local news paper did:
