Rummage Sale Bloopers

Sometimes I remember and smile!

While reading facebook I saw my (DIL) daughter in law complain that the t-shirt she’d ordered to wear at her daughter/ my grand daughter’s recital today was ordered in a Youth size. She was upset because she Always wears the new recital t-shirt to the recital.

Being the caring Mother in Law that I am,  I immediately  commented on her  status that she could wear mine. I even called her to be sure she knew of my generous offer before this morning- She said “Oh Your’s is WAY TOO BIG!”

Then I was reminded of a rummage sale I was putting together in about 1980.  My Mother and Aunt were  so concerned for poor Tommy and I that they actually cleaned out their own closets and gathered lots of donations.

I’ll never forget my aunt Dorothy coming around the evening before nearly in hysterics, holding the newspaper with the ad for the sale which said:

“Yard sale with Everything, Kids toys, clothes, furniture, antiques, household items, Tons of extra large sized woman’s clothing.

She said “Had I known you were going to put THIS in the paper and plaster it on signs all over the neighborhood I may not have donated!

I can still picture her reminding me off and on for years afterwards. “HUGE WOMEN’S CLOTHES” and her delightful chuckle. I hadn’t offended Aunt Dorothy Just added another funny story for her to tell.

So, I told the sweet Mother of our little SparklesGlitter that she could tie a HUGE knot in my t-shirt and be quite trendy at the recital. And then I smiled inside remembering Aunt Dorothy!

Delightful evening & Impressive surprise across the Ohio River

Saturday night I was privileged to attend The Russian National Ballet Theatre‘s production of “Romeo and Juliet”.  I was given four tickets from my dear friend  Nibby Priest.  The Priest family holds season tickets with the Henderson Area Arts Alliance They were unable to use their tickets for this performance.

Immediately I ask my budding ballerina grand daughter (aka SparklesGlitter)  to join me along with her dance teacher of four years, Kay Richardt and another little girl from Breanna’s dance class.

The ballet was at the Henderson Fine Arts Center, located on the campus of the Henderson Community College. And it is indeed a showplace!

Our seats were amazing.  Right in the 3rd row center stage. The ballet was beautiful! I honestly believe that these young ballerinas were treated to a show they’ll never forget.

And if you like me were not aware of the Henderson Fine Arts Alliance maybe you’ll use this opportunity to check out their website and offerings.

Before you call the Doctor ☤

Most of you know that I have struggles with multiple sclerosis, having been diagnosed with primary progressive (not terribly progressive) ms since  2003.  I’ve been exceedingly blessed for the most part to continue enjoying my ability to walk and live and full life.

Yet I do have particular issues with fatigue among other symptoms.  Most recently I’ve endured more difficulty with this paralyzing fatigue than usual.  Not sure why but I have some fever and heat of any kind really slows me down.

This school year I’ve committed to having my seven year old grand daughter dropped off at my house so she doesn’t have to ride along in the bus her Mother works on as a special needs attendant.

I offer my little Breanna aka “SparklesGlitter” a snack and then sit with her while she does her homework.  If she completes this before her Momma comes to get her she gets some free time for play or dancing or whatever. I’ve been posting almost a picture each day in an album on facebook.

On my worst days just getting myself up off the sofa and dressed having a healthy snack prepared and just being upright for her arrival requires huge effort on my part.

Knowing that I have the opportunity to make a lifelong impact on this precious little one and minister the love of God to her is incentive enough to make me  push myself beyond what I might otherwise not have been able to accomplish.   For Breanna this is a valuable time of one on one attention that not only gives her great memories of me; but also provides routine and good study habits. Its a win-win situation. Only once have I had to remain on the sofa in my pj’s during our visit.

Lately I’ve told Breanna “You have no idea how good your visit is for MeMaw- I was very weak today and on the sofa; yet seeing you has made me feel so much better.”  Then I’ve said “You, precious one are good medicine.”

So her new saying/ song is “Remember before you call the Dr.- call me, because I’m good medicine.”

Gotta love my little ballerina!

The joy of making deposits

We’re Grandparents and love it! Our youngest son married a woman who had a four year old son; so we inherited “Jacob” and don’t get to see him near enough. Although he lives with Tony & Laura, he spends most weekends with his Dad. And of course you hear about our little Breanna all the time:) I’ve even created a twitter account for her (so she’ll have her one w/ her “stage name” once she becomes famous :)

One of the biggest joys of Grand parenting is creating great memories for the kids to place in their “memory banks”. My memory bank is all tucked away in files in my brain. I have many files that I can retrieve in my mind at will. But with the technology available now we can help these deposits be more tangible by placing pictures and videos online.
Last week we had one of those great opportunities to help them make deposits of sledding. I’m unable to do the physical aspects of the hill climbing and sledding, yet I am blessed to be able to be the official photographer and maker of the archives for their memory banks. Thought I’d share this day with you.

Just can’t wait to be the King
